"Big fish eat small fish" by Low Guat Tin..etc..
well.. it tells bout a tale why big fish eat small fish of cos.. n once a upon a time.. fishes dun eat each other.. they were living happily together cos there was ample seaweed for every Fish. But becos every1 took de abundance of seaweed for granted.. it soon became scarce n they were starving. the big fish blamed de small fish n vice versa..Then.. a wise old fish respeceted by every1 doesnt like wats gg on n rallied all de fishes to work hard n grow seaweeds togethr. well.. de fishes got down to serious work.. but not for long.they find planting seaweed a chore n started to look for (cheaterbug ways) like eg. pulling de seaweed out so that it immediately grow.. but.. they all ended up de seaweed dies instead. thus.. the situation did not improve. the old fish den advice them to use fertilizer.. but they were so happy the fertilizer worked tt dey keep adding until de seaweeds eventually died. the fishes were all starving.. n de big fish bully de small ones wif their size;snatch away their food. the small fishes gathered together in a large group n lure de big fish to secluded area n attacked it. inadvertently killed them. the big fish were outraged n thus had a war wif de small fishes. the big fish thus simply ate the small fishes. not only did they deplete the small fishes, they also satisfied their hunger. that is why to this day, fishes remain divided. sticking only to their own kind.
hmm thats jus de story.. n then theres a discussion followed by it. how to link tt story to our systems thinking, n our everyday lives.
it basically teaches us 8 system archetypes,
1. Fixes that fail (problem solving that does not work)
2. Shifting the burden(taking the easy way out)
3. Drifting goals (goals that are lofty to reality)
4. Escalation (vicious cycle that increases tension on both side)
5. Tragedy of the commons (buffet table syndrome - when resource is extravagant we tend to b extravagant in the way we use it for our own)
6. Success to the successful (everyone should b given the chance to develop rather than depend on few good ones)
7. Limits to success (explore limiting factors before the bottlenecks leave us frustrated in our efforts)
8. Growth and under-investment (grow your cash cow, dont milk it dry)
tts bout it.. ;)
